Transportation Operations Manager

Paratransit and Special Needs Transportation

Whistlestop is a non-profit social enterprise providing paratransit and special needs transportation services in Marin County and the City of San Francisco. Founded 60 years ago, Whistlestop operates a fleet of 125 vehicles providing more than 500 demand response and 300 fixed route rides per day.

The Operations Manager reports to the COO is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive and proactive safety and training program in accordance with the appropriate contract, state and federal requirements for transportation operations as well as agency policy and procedures. This includes supervision, training and direction of road supervisors. The Operations Manager, STM works together as management team with Contract Operations Manager and Paratransit Operations Manager.  

Responsibilities:

  • Successfully designs and leads delivery of all driver training for new and existing staff
  • Manage team of three (3) road supervisors, a driver training manager and
  • Ensures that all training programs and materials are current and in compliance with required governing bodies and current agency policies and procedures
  • Plans, organize and facilitates regular driver safety meetings in accordance with guidelines
  • Ensure drivers are prepared to pass the Commercial Driver’s License examinations
  • Oversee and perform on-road driver evaluations for driver behavior and safety of operations
  • Provide leadership in accident review, initial accident investigations and preparation of reports
  • Maintain DMV pull notices and DOT files, including licensing and present during audits
  • Collaborates with other Transportation managers in achieving organizational objectives
  • This position is safety sensitive and subject to our drug and alcohol testing program


Qualifications:

  • Two to three years in transportation operations supervision or management role
  • Three to five years in a safety and training environment, preferably in transportation or paratransit
  • Experience training in a classroom and behind the wheel setting
  • Proficiency in ADA, DOT, FTA, OSHA regulations and related transit operations, preferred Strong leadership and supervisory experience
  • Ability to effectively delegate tasks and provide appropriate supervision and follow up to staff
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, including the ability maintain accurate records and report metrics
  • Experience with administration, monitoring and / or oversight of Drug/Alcohol program
  • Ability to achieve & maintain valid CA Commercial Driver License (B or higher) with passenger endorsement
  • Maintain a clean driving record (insurable); submit to / pass the pre-employment & random drug screening
